Golf on Prince Edward Island
Canada's smallest province is quickly becoming
a world-class golf destination. When you combine lush, rolling farmland
with breathtaking coastline backdrops, and native pine and hardwood forests,
you have the recipe for some stunning, and challenging, courses.
Prince Edward Island has twenty courses, designed by respected golf course
architects such as Stanley Thompson, Tom McBroom, Robbie Robinson,
Michael Hurdzan, Dana Fry and
Graham Cooke.
The courses also proved to be the perfect training ground for
top LPGA golfer, Lorie Kane, who grew up on the island. Despite the fact golfers are flocking to PEI in record
numbers, courses
are accessible and relatively uncrowded, especially compared to many
parts of the United States. And better yet, the golf is very affordable.
Green fees for 18-hole courses generally range between $20 and $65
CDN, with nine-hole green fees costing $10 to $20. And considering the
devalued Canadian dollar, Americans are getting one of the world's
greatest golf bargains.
Mill River and Brudenell provincial golf courses
have been chosen by Golf Digest as four-star courses, with Crowbush Cove rating as a five-star
The Lorie Kane Island Challenge will be held on the Brudenell course
August 29 and 30 this summer, furthering the notoriety of the course. And
the Mill River course will see the Canadian Tour Mcdonald's PEI Golf
Challenge, August 24-27.
McBroom's Crowbush Cove offers the golfer a
British-links experience unmatched in all of Canada.
The course features nine water holes, eight holes near the dunes, undulating fairways,
pot bunkers, challenging greens, and panoramic views of PEI's beautiful north shore.
